I bought this at a used book store on a whim and didn't realize it was part of a series. Is it important to have read the first four before starting this one?

Shinn does a good job of reintroducing characters so there wasn't a point in the story where I was terribly confused, but I def would've appreciated starting from the first book. If anything, Fortune and Fate sort of acts as an epilogue (though still a bit detached from the main story). I'd say get the first book, the entire series as a whole is very worth it. (less)
