It is supposed to be an ambiguous fam…moreI think one of the whole points of this book is that we are not supposed to know where they are or who they are. It is supposed to be an ambiguous family that could be anyone's family. It raises the question of what would you do for love/your family which is why I believe everyone is left nameless. (less)

I do not think this book is appropriate for 99.8% of middle schoolers. Exceptional children would be the exception. This book is incredibly dark and disturbing. I don't want to spoil anything but I would encourage you to read this for yourself before considering whether to allow a child to read it.

If you want me to just shut up and give you a number, I'd say the average child should be allowed to read this at 14 to 16 years of age depending on how sensitive they are to... horrific things.(less)
