Richard Osman (a TV presenter in the UK ) said "The book that is most underrated, the funniest book in the English language, is Towards the End of the Morning by Michael Frayn. It details the last great days of Fleet Street and the early days of television." Is it really the funniest?

Tina It started out laugh-out-loud and settled down into wryly amusing.

I would love to have given this 4 stars but I agree that it peters out at the end. It's wryly amusing in places and cringeworthy on the TV shows and in some of the relationships e.g. that of Bob and Tessa. Thank goodness it's a short book because I found myself rushing to finish it. A mediocre read by a great author. Who thinks Barbara Pym is better on "woolly-minded middle-class liberals"?
