I am assuming it is a running joke in the book based on the Wikipedia-based allegation that he died from morphine use in his hotel room.

Norm wrote a tweet in 2018 saying, "I've never taken morphine. I chose it because I read the letters of Jack London, under the influence of Morphine." That comma is tricky, but Jack London died of a morphine overdose.

My own personal experience, knowing people who did morphine recreationally... I don't think you're 100% all there when you're doing it, it isn't a party drug, and you're certainly not handing out morphine for free unless you're extremely affluent. Either way... I don't think Norm ever did morphine recreationally, it's just another fabrication in a book of fabrications.(less)
