Who are the Russian women?

Do you think W. Smith's character 'Hector Cross' was named correctly as "Predator'? I've just read the book and found it confusing to say the least. A predator hunts unseen, separates its victim from its peers and kills quickly and quietly. Cross seems to be more of a serial counter-puncher, reacting to his enemies actions more than preying on an unsuspecting victim?
