Those extra three months are going to feel like one of those cereal box offers where you have to wait 6-8 weeks for delivery. It felt like an eternity when you were a little kid. Emily It’s probably named for the Mesopotamian goddess Tiamat that’s known for being pretty wrathful. She’s also who the DnD character is named after.

The human brain can switch off and on again without any ill effects except for some confusion, but Duarte, becoming more akin to the gate creators, has become susceptable to this as were the gate creators themselves.

In general, there are many things in this book series that must be taken as speculation of one or more of the characters instead of fact. This can be seen already on the first book where they had 'monsters' and the protomolecule was claimed to have been a weapon against humanity. These speculations are there more to show the mindset of the character than to show any absolute objective reality. Thus, anything said during the books should be taken with a grain of salt and an open mind.
Cortazar locked the children in a cage claiming that they are not actually the humans that they were but some suffisticated machine designed to mimic humans. It is however revieled over time that the children, and Amos for that matter (who is the same type of being now) at the very least behave exactly like the humans they were and consider themselves to be the same person. If they are still humans or not is now more of a philosophical question.(less)

In some sense, the books are just snapshots of some of the more "pivotal moments" in this universe's history. Our familiar characters are just there to ground the story, and provide some some sense of passage of time (they are becoming much older, physically changing, and some are dying). The book I think, isn't about them, as much as the Expanse Universe. Could be wrong.(less)
