ok I missed it what were the Velvet Hours? I don't know why I liked this book but I did. I was bored at times and had to remind my self this is fiction and the author can (and did) make up whatever thoughts and conclusions she wanted to. I wanted more of the escape story. -still -I wanted to meet these long ago characters, watch them on the street interacting with their vanities. I wanted to live in the apartment.

The novel has no modern-day story, but rather takes place in Paris during the Belle Epoque and WWII.(less)

So do we never find out who fathered Solange’s dad? It seems as if we know most of Marthe’s adult life but there is no mention of when the pregnancy took place.
