It's been a while since I read this, and as you might see from my review, I had mixed feelings. However, I seem to almost remember the example you give -- but not quite -- and I think it does fit in the general concept of the book's message, if interpreted in the most positive of ways... How can you find the best in any given situation? How can you approach something as a challenge and a learning point, and not as a defeat or a stifling problem?
And yes, I do think that the author meant it only in the most positive and supporting way... which is not to say that it isn't awkward to read, particularly if you're close to this particular subject matter.
And that, too, fits my general feelings about this book. It wasn't rushed to completion so much as it seems to have been kept (very) short as to -- perhaps -- not take too much time to write...
In any case, it does tend to oversimplify or generalize some things. It's about a message and it aims to visualize the end goal... and not to delve into the complex details of how each of us can implement that message's prerequisites. That simplified aim must suit the prospective reader (at least, such was my verdict). Else, it'll not be a very satisfying book for you.(less)
