I never felt like the story lines were forced and instead each character flowed with the story they were struggling to make sense of who they are while dealing with the culture of the school. There are portions of the book titled "US" in which different girls some anonymous some not would have paragraphs on whether or no they agree with the movement and whether or not they feel included or if they agreed or not. The topics discussed are the ones deemed important right now but it doesn't feel like you're being suffocated with politics it feels as if you are involved in the story since a lot of things in it are relatable. If you do give this book a chance (which I really! recommend) just go into it with an open mind. The book doesn't force the idea on you it is about the changing of a culture and what it would take for these girls to discover themselves in the midst of the changing culture.(less)

Adults are all idiots except for the one, perfect progressive mom. Even her husband is a nothing. It's too bad. She could have written the same book without half the negativity and stereotypes. The Principal could have supported the girls, as most women would. It's as if the adults were drawn from the 1920s(less)
