The climax won't nearly have its punch without familiarity with the first book.(less)

Lisa is a "present day" human... But only 30 years after Something Coming Through? Is Tony human? How many years to have a first and Second Empire etc? Do the two strands of the story happen concurrently? Non-sequitur big time here!
