I'm puzzled about the beasts that both Irenie and Brodis see. I would predict that the ones Brodis sees are figments of his fear of the Beast/the Devil, but then I don't underrstand the giant pigs that Irenie saw. Why would she see symbols of the Devil? Any help?

Irenie was very tuned in to the local area, including wildlife - whereas Brodis was not and didn't understand what he was seeing, so he jumped to other conclusions.(less)
