Determined to read ALL of Marele Day's books, I started on this one but like the book about Mr and Mrs Cook (That rhymes!) I just was not as absorbed as I was in the Claudia Valentine books. I thoroughly enjoyed (mentally) following her through the familiar streets of Sydney and beyond. Definitely 'relaxing'. Like being taken for a tour. How do / did others find THIS book?

It seems strong on the spirituality, mythology, folklore and metaphor...kind of an exploration of the triumphantly irrational so I don't think everyone would like it (it wasn;t as straight forward as a lot of books). To me it was about things like "terra nullius" and poking fun of power over the "other" by destabilising and reversing the expected at every point. There was quite a lot about gender as well in it. Not "relaxing" I take your point with that but if you persist at the end it goes back to a more relaxing and soothing sort of a tone (I thought). I am very glad I read it anyway(less)
