Does anybody know what books I should read before starting with one? There are several references in the book like names or organisations of which I have no clue about. this makes the book for me personally disappointing, as I have problems following the plot.

Character's name is Beatrix. The ad has the character holding a Japanese sword. The ad has a black and yellow color scheme. The ad claims it's about a wronged mother who seeks revenge. HER NAME IS BEATRIX. Kill Bill really wasn't that long ago. How is the author seriously getting away with this? I really want to know.
