On the one hand, it discusses the pain of the child being given away to the church as a monk. On the other hand, it shows what a vast variety of skills Arn (the lead character) receives only because he was raised in a church environment.

Regardless, the church is not the focus of this book but rather, the emotions and attitudes shaped because of our environment.(less)
