It's not uncommon for a person to be born in one place but have spent a big chunk of her life in another. I think the book describes Abuja as the city where she's lived for a long time, but she could easily still be "Ugandan."(less)

If reading their POV chapters is problematic for you, the great thing about these books is each chapter is clearly identified by the character that it is told by. You could skip the most troublesome ones if you must, and you would still get the gist of the story. You would then have an understanding of events going into the next books.(less)
