Has anyone here read American Ghost by Hannah Nordhaus? I am thoroughly enjoying reading it. I love the history of the family and of Santa Fe. I think the author did a great job of blending it together.

So, about Julia's "dreadful accident" in Europe...? It seemed pretty obvious to me that it was probably an attempted suicide, so I was a bit surprised that the author didn't even speculate about its nature - just seemed to give it up as unknowable.
