What the heck happened to Ayub in Kerala? I get it that there was a tsunami. Right? But did they really put a bomb in him? What was that? I felt like suddenly the book did a pivot and we were in magical realism territory.

There is a lot in it, so I found that picking it up whenever I had a few moments did not really work too well for me. It was the choice for my book club, and I was worried that I was not getting what I really should out of it, reading it for a few moments whenever I could.... when I changed my tactics, and decided to devote a longer period to the read, it was wonderful. I really love this book.(less)
