I'm reading this book on Scribd and there are words missing and strange uses of passive voice like "It was half past seven and I was stood under the colonnaded arcade..." and I was wondering if this was actual mistakes in the book or if it's something about Scribd's edition that's messed up? Thanks.

Chris "I was stood" doesn't sound strange to me. It is just one of the possible past tenses. We all understand English differently but to me "I stood" would…more"I was stood" doesn't sound strange to me. It is just one of the possible past tenses. We all understand English differently but to me "I stood" would imply that the person had just moved to stand in the colonnade, "I was standing" implies something temporary but "I was stood" suggests a person standing still, with no movement. But as I say, that's a personal interpretation.(less)
