Chris "I was stood" doesn't sound strange to me. It is just one of the possible past tenses. We all understand English differently but to me "I stood" would…more"I was stood" doesn't sound strange to me. It is just one of the possible past tenses. We all understand English differently but to me "I stood" would imply that the person had just moved to stand in the colonnade, "I was standing" implies something temporary but "I was stood" suggests a person standing still, with no movement. But as I say, that's a personal interpretation.(less)
