Fo…moreIt is worth reading, at least once. The story is so rich in culture and history but creatively woven in to a particular family's life and travails. For me as a non-Turk who has lived in and visited Istanbul as recently as 2019, the beautifully composed narrative opened a portal into a 'nagging' question of mine: how does a Turk define their self-identity from a patchwork quilt of various ethnicities along with their respective languages and three major religions into transforming as a Turkish citizen in a new modern republic.
