He immediately sent his agen…moreAfter reading Patricia Highsmith's first novel Strangers On a Train, Alfred Hitchcock realized what a gem he'd come upon. He immediately sent his agents to purchase the film rights from Highsmith, which she agreed to for a paltry $7,500. Unbeknownst to her however was that it was the great director and master of suspense making the offer. Hitchcock was thrilled; Highsmith, not so much.
