He immediately sent his agents to purchase the film rights from Highsmith, which she agreed to for a paltry $7,500. Unbeknownst to her however was that it was the great director and master of suspense making the offer. Hitchcock was thrilled; Highsmith, not so much.
Also noteworthy, Raymond Chandler co-authored the screenplay.(less)
