What are the best translations for this book? I've downloaded the C.J. Hogarth one from GoodReads but have been told that it is to be avoided. And I can't find any other translations on Amazon either. Are there e-books present online with a good translation?

Having just read it, I can attest that it was excellent. Don't read inferior translations that ignore cultural subtlety. What's the point of reading it at all if you do!(less)

Part 2 Ch. 5 has one of the strangest transitions I have ever read in a book. Stolz has asked Oblomov to join him traveling abroad. Oblomov owes him a letter explaining why he hasn't joined him. Suddenly, one paragraph to the next, Oblomov is walking down a country road, gathering flowers for Olga (who has just now appeared in the book, a new friend that Stolz has introduced him to). Stolz is back in the country. Nu?

Tom I think that the transition should introduce us into this drastic new situation that Oblomov was in and kickstart the second plotline of the book.
