I think narration also sets them apart, part of the intrigue about GG is the unreliable narrator aspect, whereas the narrator in Monsters in extremely to-the-point. There's never a moment in Monsters where the narrator knows more than she's letting on, which I thought really set the mood. Plus, the fact that it's narrated by a 12-year old gives it a more curious, adventurous and youthful feeling to it. Hope that helped?
