The app opens automatically and allows you to view Kindle e-books on iPhones and just about any other device. The app is free. I never bought a Kindle or a Nook but read over 50 Kindle books on my iPhone before I got an iPad. A lot of my books are available on IBooks, but not all. Amazon offers authors incentives to make their books exclusive to Kindle, but again, it doesn't stop readers without Kindle's from reading them. My books are also available in paperback... of course they cost more. BTW the same principle applies to audible audio books, you buy them from amazon but they play on any device with the audible app. (less)
