Is this told without a sense of self pity as was The Glass Castle? I found that book enlightening because I did not have to work through the drivel, but simply appreciate the actual life of the author.

I just finished reading this remarkably tragic book. At the end, I got the sense that Ruth entered into a polygamist marriage when she "incidentally" stated her husband wasn't monogamist. I was disappointed that she didn't further elaborate on this, and I was especially surprised that she would have chosen this lifestyle in view of her upbringing. How do others view the ending?
