Generally speaking I might say 13 and up, but those are flexible numbers.

I've heard that some high-schools have added this book to their curriculum and I think it's an easier and more digestible read at high-school age than many of the books I was given in school.

Some of the things in this book, like making friends with a wild badger or slapping a bear aren't a good idea, so a word of caution if your 6th grader is someone who loves to try new things they've just read about, but I think the risk of that is pretty low. There's very little disturbing or shocking in this book to worry about and overall it's quite uplifting.

Tom Brown Jr.'s 2nd book, The Search, is a good follow up to this one. Some of his later books get more into spirituality and might be better for someone a little older because they get a little strange and his "How-To" books are certainly readable and full of information, but I've found those very dry. I like his story telling a lot though.(less)
