If you are worried about the content be warned: this is not a children's series. It has depictions of some of the worst aspects of human nature (abuse, gory murder, sexual depravity, etc.). The comic series never idolizes these things, but they are in there. If a single rape joke, told by some of the worst characters, concerns you, then you might want to think twice about the series.

Some volumes aren't so much single coherent narratives as collections of short stories (e.g. volume 3). Others are indeed constructed as more cohesive single narratives, but the earlier volumes, especially, often feel less like novels than linked sequences of stories (e.g. the Hob Gadling chapter of The Doll's House comes smack between what one would think of as two consecutive chapters and doesn't really fit in with the overall narrative of Dream corralling his errant major arcana).(less)
