I recently started reading this, and so far, it seems to mostly be about the geology behind the San Francisco Earthquake and the scientists who researched it. I'm really more interested in the topic of the 1906 earthquake as it relates to the history, culture, and urban development of San Francisco. Should I keep going or look for a different book about the history of San Francisco?

I want to buy a hardback copy of A Crack in the Edge of the World. I previously had a paperback version. It had no maps, which made the book very hard to understand. Is there a current hardback version, or only second hand?

Tom Darrow If lack of maps is your major problem with this book, the paperback edition (2005) of it which I read had maps.
