I first experienced this book as a book on tape, read by Bryson himself. It was just fantastic. I liked it so much I wanted to go through it all as a book as well. I would say that it's still my favorite travel book by Bryson. You learn so much about this unique country's history, geology, politics, and natural history; and yet it's so much fun to read. Reading this book inspired me to write my own travel book. (less)

It's basically his experience of traveling the country with various factual content mixed in. There isn't a lot of reference to time or "pop culture" if you will. (less)
