It was, as I recall, a fascinating read, not at all as dry as one might expect. Of course I read it in 1962 or so when it was relatively recent history that had shaped the world I was in. I read Berlin Diary recently, nearly 80 years after the period in question, and found it fascinating for its insight into what Shirer was thinking as events occurred. I strongly recommend both books.
