When Heidi's Mama showed up at Bernadette's door, Heidi's Mama said the baby's name was "Heidi" and when Bernadette asked for the mother's name, Heidi's mama just says "So be it." Since Bernadette believes that everyone deserves a middle name, she made "So" the mother's first name, "Be" the mother's middle name, and "It" the last name (making Heidi "Heidi It"). Bernadette shortened the middle name to B, so whenever she signed Heidi's Mama's name, she signed it as "So B. It," thus creating the title of the book.(less)
