My 10 year old found this book at the library and hasn't read any of the books that come before. Will he be able to enjoy/follow along without having read the first 6 or should I find the first book in the series for him and have him start there?

What age group is this book good for? Have an almost 7 year old grandson and the books we find in the library are boring to him.
Andrew Moore I started the series in 4th grade. I have loved each book equally. (well except for the fourth one, that started boring)

When will this book be available in paperback? My daughter is so anxious to read, but with sensory issues she prefers paperbacks and to have her books "match". her reasoning, not mine. Lol
