That said, having grown up in an emotionally abusive situation, I would have been happy to come across this as a teen.(less)

Unanswered Questions (2)

So I think Im somewhere around a third of the way through (to put it as non-spoilery as I can manage, just got past the reveal with the carousel and the horses)... and I'm struggling to keep engaged. I guess I'm asking if this is one of those "get through the first half" stories, or if this is as good as it gets? Any and all thoughts welcome ;)

Really enjoyed the book but I'm confused about the tithe-breaking rules. At one point Gavin says that breaking the tithe means Imogen has to go to Faerie in her place forever, then later that it will be for seven years and she gets the tithe benefits. In the end she breaks it but doesn't go need to go at all. Perhaps being in the river saved her? What did I miss?
