There are lots of references to the events of "The Archmage Unbound" and "The Last Redemption", but most of them are explained enough for you to get the gist.

For the second book of this sub-series, "Centyr Dominance" you actually need to read both "Mageborn" and "Embers of Illeniel". The plot of the book itself will still make sense without that, but you won't be able to fit it into the overarching plot of the series, and your confusion will only grow in "Demonhome" and "Riven Gates".(less)
