I just started this book and am mildly disappointed. It's not that I don't understand that is a prequel, I'm just not sure I like it. I feel like I have gone backward 10-15 years. I don't know if I will be able to finish it, which will be unusual for me, but it is certainly not "calling" to me as other books do. How do other readers feel about this one?

Wonder if anyone else picked up on some Shakespearean echoes? The scene as remembered by Lynley when he (young prince) walked in on his mother (the queen) with her lover while his father died in the room down the hall? Perhaps a bit of the romantic comedies too with the couples interchanging?
