Why doesn't Lola use articles or personal pronouns? Is this how all Irish people speak? I dont know any first generation Irishmen so I suppose its possible. Or is this just a regional thing; like how southern Americans often swap the "er" at the end of words for an "a" and the writer is trying to write the way people speak?

The reason Lola's POV omits these words is because she is writing in a diary. Sometimes there is only a few minutes between entries. She is writing quickly and the pronouns and articles are implied. She doesn't mean for anyone to read it, so grammar isn't an issue.

Basically, she isn't writing how she speaks; she's merely getting the words down on paper quickly and informally. Hope this helps.(less)
