Saw this book and got pissed off and am now looking for answers. Preferably from the author herself. How is this even possible without copyright infringement? Why isn't it mentioned that this is fanfiction? Why are there no acknowledgments of the original work or author anywhere on here?

When people started calling her out on it she told us that she had gotten permission from the company that holds the rights to Ai no Kusabi but when people actually contacted the company they had no idea who she was and had never heard about the book.

Eventually either they got on her about it or she just decided to take her stupidity to the next level and took all the money people had paid for pre-orders for the 3rd book and TOOK OFF. She said she refunded people their money but there were a lot who were given the run around and never refunded. A lot of people lost money. This pattern of opening sites that people have to pay to access, working on it for a couple of months, and then suddenly shutting down and running with all the money has happened multiple times over the years. Long story short, NEVER GIVE THIS SCAMMER YOUR MONEY.(less)

I had a couple of questions. Is this the book that was turned into an anime? I never knew who the original author was, but should this even be purchased if this author was not the original writer? It is available on Amazon for purchase, but I don't know if this should be purchased if she is not allowed to sell the book.

Back in the early-mid 2000s the author claimed she got permission to make money off of her fanfic from someone at the company that licensed the American AnK novels but she's so far refused to provide proof of that and there's always been a lot of questions concerning whether or not that was true. For example why wouldn't DMP have printed it under their label if they were cool with it? Why would they just allow someone to make money off of one of their works without taking a percentage for themselves? Also, the person she claimed to have gotten permission from was in charge of "Negotiated distribution contracts with distributors, wholesalers, and independent retailers." (off that person's LinkedIn page). Does that sound like someone who could give away the AnK rights to a fanfic writer? Or does that sound like someone who thought they were entering into an agreement with someone to sell the official Yoshihara books?

There was also a lot of questions back in the day about whether or not she told them she was doing actual print copies or only asked for permission to include it as part of her website subscription service.

On the other hand the original copyright holders haven't had these books pulled off Amazon or sued her yet so who knows. The whole thing is just weird, to be honest. And Kira's continued refusal to provide the written proof of permission to sell hard copies hasn't helped matters. Obviously it's her choice to withhold or provide that proof since she doesn't have to legally answer to AnK fans but honestly, how hard would it be for her to just scan the signed piece of paper from the publisher to finally put these questions to rest?

Whether you buy it is up to you but if you want to encourage the actual copyright holder to put out more AnK stuff I'd suggest buying the legit novel by Rieko Yoshihara. Personally I wouldn't buy Taming Riki until the author shows the actual permission letter for published books but again, it's a personal decision and you can buy whichever you like. (less)
