So when the description talks about lusts, exotica, etc... are we just talking hetero? Because I really don't want to invest in reading about penis in vagina metaphors. Especially considering plant life and animal life is so very queer... it'd be a shame to have not capitalized on those aspects of "sexuality". I just can't read about straight stuff anymore. No offense. Bores the hell out of me.

Does this series have any links to the Southern Reach trilogy, or is it completely seperate?

There are scenes and developments in Book …moreThey are separate but you can see some of the bones of what would become Southern Reach every now and then. There are scenes and developments in Book 2 that are very reminiscent of the Crawler for me. It's not the same thing, but you can see him playing with ideas he would later incorporate into Area X (lenses that open the other worlds, a threat that might not be sentient or terribly concerned about us, expeditions into the underground, etc). It's worth seeing him play with these ideas in an entirely different setting (the city of Ambergris is entirely fictional and kinda vaguely Victorian / early 20th century London or New York). (less)
