I didn't know "insta-love" was considered a YA trope! There's definitely an instant attraction, but I was really interested in exploring the complexities of first love and that once you REALLY get to know a person, they don't always meet all of your expectations. And yet, you can't automatically turn off your feelings for them. A lot of the YA books I've read have insta-forever love, and that's just never seemed very realistic to me. (less)
