I have not yet read Dietland, though I intend to! I am interested in hearing from others about activism that fans of the book can engage in. Which leads me to the question: how much does the book promote nonviolence? I know that it features a sympathetic view of different theories of change but I will only engage in activism that is nonviolent. will that work and still be true to the text of the book?!

But, here's my question: as a man, might it not serve you to read the book and see what some of us are feeling? I, for one, LOVED the violence. I'm sorry. I loved my dad and I love my male students. And I loved a boyfriend once. But I have a LOT of hate in me for men as a group, as do MANY, MANY women I know - professional, educated women. Hate comes from a powerful place and I think that, just as white folk need to understand the hate that many brown folk feel toward them, men need to understand, in a real and visceral sense, the hate (born of legitimate fear and, often, humiliation) that so many women feel toward them.
Just my seven thousand dollars worth (cause I don't waste my time with trifling sums like two cents).(less)

Did anyone have any chapters that cut out mid-sentence? I thought it might have been for dramatic effect, but it happened at odd times and was never explained at the end.

I don't understand how this book actually has 3.55 rating? I am a well read person, and rarely have I hated a book as much as this one. DO NOT waste your time!
