Queerness? I thought that was considered an 'offensive' word to the gay community? Do you find it offensive as used in the book? And why do you think they used the word "queer" rather than 'gay' or homosexual? Seems like they are trying to create friction using such a divisive word.

Queer theory proper, in an academic sense, skews toward the study of gender and nontraditional gender expression, which seems entirely accurate for this book as well.(less)
