The premise sounds awesome. However, how did the author think that naming your main character Lirael was a good idea? Did she know that there already is a young adult heroine called Lirael? And that there's a book named after her? And that it's such a unique name that it will be nigh-on impossible to associate it with anyone else?

If we give it enough time, though, the name Katniss will probably appear in books outside the Hunger Games trilogy. The thought may have crossed the author's (and hopefully the editor's) mind that it's a risk, but I imagine their association of the name to their own character was strong enough that they ultimately moved forward with their decision.
In the end, all we can do is speculate.(less)
