Yes, it is a novel, possibly a YA, but I'm well over 50 & thoroughly enjoyed it! It isn't quite the same plot as the movie, so it was full of unexpected events and I had no idea how it would end. It was great fun, very funny, and I'm now going to read the second in the series, the adventure with Moby Dick (which is the same book as with Whalers, incidentally, it got released under two titles).(less)
