There are a few stories in here (ie Hell is the Absence of God, Division by Zero, and Story of your Life) that have very emotional ties but for the most part, I would not label it a tear jerker by any means. As far as I know, the book was originally published as Stories of Your Life and Others, then after the success of the movie Arrival (which is based on one of the stories in the book), the movie-tie-in editions were released with the same title as the movie.(less)
