I think i missed something but was the story behind why dani took Benji to their spot?

I'm confused... why did Dani take Benjii to their spot? Also, when was that? Was it when Alec's dad was sick? If so, wasn't that in high school? Did Danni say sorry to Alec? OK, we NEED a background story for this!!!!!
