He introduces 8 (?) different, unrelated characters, with each revolving around a different species of tree. I haven't gotten to the point where he brings the characters together.

Powers is an outstanding writer, able to create distinctive characters, each with a compelling story.

I think it's on the best-seller list as I write this. 12/19.(less)
