Just to preface: I haven't actually read this book. I DID read LAWKI , but after reading the summaries for the next 3 books in the series, I had no desire to read the rest of the books. But if you enjoyed the book, that's also good! It wasn't terrible, it was actually good, just not my cup of tea. But my question is, does anyone else feel the same way as me?

Haven't read the first one, didn't know this was part of a series until I looked at the inside of the back cover and thought it might be. I might need to try and get my hands on the other ones. How many are in the series, 3?

Did anyone else notice some foreshadowings for a feminism theme (e.g. Alex realizing that he almost never went grocery shopping, remembering his mom always having to clean the house despite studying to be come a doctor) that was never achieved?

But when the kids of the story survive with little bit of food and no power and one of the kids died from a asthma attack how did they survive?

In my 8th grade class, we read this book. I believe the theme of the dead and the gone is to always rely on faith and hope. This is because, throughout the book, Alex and his sisters relied on their faith to keep them alive. For example, when he found out his parents might be in trouble, the first thing he did was pray. They also prayed whenever they wanted to give up, which gave them the strength to continue living?
