There must have been family money, because th…moreIsa's allowance came thru a solicitor, so her mother probably left it to her with the uncle as executor. There must have been family money, because the uncle "found" the house for them but there's no indication he paid for it out of pocket or supported Isa's whole family all those years. It would have made sense that Louis got the house, Isabel got the money, & Heinrich got cut out of the will. (less)

So…moreI think Isabel needed a housekeeper because she grew up in the large house with "help" & a domineering mother, & never learned how to cook & clean. So when Neelke left, Isa was so overwhelmed she made no effort to keep up with the household duties herself, or even hire a replacement to keep up appearances. (less)
