Can someone explain the cover of the book? Did I miss a moment when Maisie discovered an old photo or painting? It definitely appears to be a nurse.

Listening to this, narrated by Orlagh Cassidy. Enjoying the story, as I have all of the Maisie Dobbs books. I'm having a hard time with one issue, and can't keep quiet anymore. I am NOT liking Mark, Maisie's husband. Not sure how much of that has to do with the way his voice is portrayed. Very nasally. And comes across as a pretty superficial guy. Is it the writing or the narration that's causing issues for me?

So who was Sergeant Kirby??? I feel like it was implied we should know him, but I wasn't actually sure who he was? Did I miss something?

I think the point was he wasn't really a sergeant, but another community/lay person that had been recruited to the role.(less)
