Was anyone else chagrined by the petty nature of some of her complaints about her mother? The big things, yes. But much of what she fussed about was just a clash of personalities. Also, I love the Henry Huggins books, but never could stand Ramona. After reading A Girl from Yamhill, I think Ramona may have been an autobiographical character.

Just toxic. She was controlling and critical of everything Beverly did or said or wanted to do. Pushing a young man on a girl for selfish reasons when the girl has made it clear she wants nothing to do with him is just plain wrong. I adored Ramona growing up and after a recent reread, I still love her. I wasn't into any of the others as much. Maybe Socks and Ralph S. Mouse. (less)
