Power Play is what I would characterise as a very formalised BDSM relationship and I read the arc as being very much about a submissive coming to terms with their nature. For me, For Real, isn't really about BDSM in the same sort of way, but your mileage may vary. Kink is quite a broad category and people approach it very differently. The dom isn't a masochist, he's just young and inexperienced in practice, though not in instinct.(less)
